Fourth of July Weekend

I had the most wonderful time this weekend celebrating America’s birthday with family and friends! I’ve also officially decided that every weekend should be 3 days long… I mean, it’s the perfect amount of time for a weekend! Hear me out – you get one day to be super productive, one day to do something adventurous and one day to fully chill (and in the summer, that means pool time!) + plenty of time to spend with loved ones… then you go back to work fully recharged and ready to tackle the week. Anyone want to help me pitch this idea to my boss? 😉 Oh well, it’s nice to get a long weekend every once and a while and I will fully take advantage of them when they come around.

We kick-started the holiday weekend by taking a road trip down to Waco to visit Magnolia Market with Jonathan’s parents – who met us there from Houston. My mother-in-law and I are both big fans of Chip and Joanna Gaines and their show, Fixer Upper.

The store and silos were everything you would imagine if you watch the show – adorable and full of farmhouse charm. We spent some time browsing around the store, which was pretty crowded, then walked the grounds (and grabbed a Steel City Pop from the food truck) before stopping into the newly opened bakery on-site – which was even more crowded than the store.  Even though it was super busy, the staff was extremely friendly and efficient – it was a great experience! The bakery had so many mouthwatering options to choose from and I opted for the Lemon Lavender cupcake. I was very happy with my choice, but will be going back soon to try some of the others! We would have picked up extra to enjoy later, but it was over 100 degrees that day and we weren’t sure they would survive the heat.

I’m so glad that we made the trip to Waco – it was definitely worth the drive to visit Magnolia, but even more so to see Jonathan’s parents.  We don’t get to see them often enough since we live so far away.

When we got home from Waco, nothing sounded better than hitting up the pool!  The heat really got to us that day so it was really refreshing to jump in the cool water.  We had a great time and even made some new friends that live nearby in our apartment complex.

On Sunday, we chilled…and I mean CHILLED. We started the Showtime series, Shameless on Netflix and may or may not have reached season 2 by the end of the weekend. #bingewatchingforthewin!  We did manage to make it back out to the pool to meet our new friends for a bit, then made our way back to the couch for more Shameless.

Monday, we did a little cleaning and organizing at our apartment, then headed out to Waxahachie to visit some of my family and watch fireworks.  One of my sisters just bought a tiny house so we were so excited to see her new place – which turned out to be so incredibly cute and not all that tiny! We played Pictionary and my other sister prepared a shrimp boil for the occasion. We ended the weekend perfectly by watching fireworks light up the sky all around us in the countryside.
